How much sugar is in an innocent glass of orange juice? You’d be surprised to find out there can be as much if not more than a can of coke.
A can of coke has whooping 33g of sugar! That’s about 8½ tea spoons of sugar. It’s a scary thought isn’t it? Could you imagine putting 8½ teaspoons of sugar in your tea or coffee? Sounds crazy but it’s essentially the same.
It get’s even more crazy when you find out that 330ml glass of orange juice can have nearly the same sugar content as a coke.
Most people will happily drink a glass with their breakfast and think it’s “healthy” because” it’s fruit.
Could you see yourself eating 8 or so oranges instead with your breakfast? Or even just the oranges?
It would be too much wouldn’t it?

Before I found all this out I would happily give my son a glass of orange juice over some sugary fizzy pop. I actually thought it was good for him, yay he’s getting one of his 5 a day :-/
His poor little pancreas most of been working on overdrive to lower his blood sugar.
Let me show you some of these devils in disguise,
This 500ml bottle of Pret OJ has a staggering 51grams of sugar in (the equivalent sugar as 13 McVities Hobnob biscuits!)
This Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice with Bits 250ml has 23.0g of sugar in.
A 330ml glass of this Innocent Orange Juice with Bits has 27.0g of sugar in.
Those morning glasses of fresh orange juice aren’t so innocent now are they?
You’re best bet is to get a good ol’ cold glass of water with a few slices of lemon down your neck than rather than these sneaky sources of sugar.
I hope this article has shed some light on the juice trap. If you’re looking to lose weight, feel good and get healthy then cutting back your sugar intake is a must and one of the first things to go should be these sugary juices as well as fizzy pop.
