How To Quit Sugar Cold Turkey
Want to know how to quit sugar cold turkey? Great because that’s what I did and I’ll show you some useful tips that will help you quit cold turkey.
Some people like to do it slowly but for me that drags out the whole thing. Instead of feeling a miserable for a week or 2 you just end up feeling miserable and deprived for much much longer.
You get 2 types of people, the ones jump straight into the pool, and those that like to first dip in their toes, then dunk a leg in, then the other, then drop to the waist, then finally submerging the rest of the body, and all of this was done going ohh ahh ohh ahh. For me that doesn’t make sense. Just jump in and get over already will ya!
There’s no need to mess around, it’s not going to be easy and enjoyable but it’ll be worth it. Once I got through the first few weeks it was pretty plain sailing. It doesn’t need to be complicated just commit to it and do it, simple!
If you’re ready to do this then…
Here’s 4 tips that will help show you how to quit sugar cold turkey.
1. Pick a date to quit then quit
Don’t just decide to quit randomly the next day after you’ve shoved ten chocolate bars down your throat, that normally won’t work as you haven’t had time to prepare. I did that many times out of frustration after a sugar binge but the next day I would feel better and I would be craving sugar so the idea of quitting went out the window again.
When you’ve decided to quit give yourself a day that’ll you’ll do it at least a week away so you can prepare and get educated around sugar. Otherwise you’ll be setting yourself up for failure and you’ll lose confidence in your self.
2. Don’t have access to any sugar
Makes sense right? Most people who want to know how to quit sugar cold turkey would still leave all that sugar in their cupboards. You wouldn’t leave alcohol in the cupboards if an alcoholic was quitting alcohol cold turkey would you? It’s the same. I call it the sugar purge, when you’ve decided to quit sugar cold turkey you need to rid your cupboards of all that white poison otherwise when you’re at your weakest that sugar will be there calling out your name. Don’t let that happen, rid those cupboards or sugar!
3. Don’t put your self in any sugar situations
In the first few weeks you’re going to be a little delicate around sugar as you’re bodies hormones return back to normal and being around sugar won’t help. It’s best to avoid places and situations where sugar will be on offer as it’s so easy to go out with good intentions then as soon as it’s there in your face you suddenly forget why you even quit sugar, you then binge which is followed by that feeling of guilt! Don’t risk it, it’s only a few weeks and once your body has return to homeostasis you’ll be in a much better position to go out and be around sugar without the urge to binge on it.
4. Replace that sugar
Finally, it you want to know how to quit sugar cold turkey then you need to replace that sugar with something else. Sugar has played a big part of your life so when you cut it out it might feel like somethings missing. The best thing to do is to replace it with a healthy alternative. When I first quit I ate nuts and cheese. That got me through the detox period and now I don’t even feel the urge to do that, I rarely snack in between meals now. Once your hunger hormones are back in balance you’ll probably find the same for your self.
I used to sit in front of the TV at night eating chocolate so I just swapped that for the nuts. Try it for your self. Write down all the times you usually eat sugar and think of an alternative you can do/eat instead that’s pleasurable instead of eating sugar.
Quitting sugar doesn’t need to be overly difficult, you just need to be prepared. It’s like that old sage goes “failing to plan is planning to fail”, it’s true so make sure you plan well and you’ll quit sugar no problem.
Living sugar free is an amazing experience that you should experience for yourself. Go ahead now and plan the day you say bye for good to the sweet white poison!
