Let me start by asking the reverse of that question, is there any benefit (health that is) to eating sugar and by todays standards that’s a lot.
Let me tell you the answer, drum roll please (warning you may be in a for a massive shock!)…
There is NONE!
Wow I bet that was a big shock!
All joking aside I think most people know sugar isn’t great for them and that’s why I wanted to show you the benefits of learning how to stop eating sugar.
We may all be shocked by being told of the bad things that can happen to you like (diabetes, cancers, obesity, heart disease, dementia, the list goes on) and it still doesn’t seem to stop us consuming around 126 grams a day, which would equal close to a whooping 32 teaspoons.
So I’m going to show you what positive health benefits you can expect by quitting sugar for good!
Benefit 1 – Lose weight
BOOM benefit number 1 is probably the most sought after, most people will notice weight loss pretty soon after cutting out sugar, I my self lost 8 pounds in the first 2 weeks, I did exercise as well but I know from experience that I’ve exercised and ate all the usual crap I did eat and I didn’t lose any weight. Remember that saying “abs are made in the kitchen not the gym”!
Benefit 2 – Reverse/prevent type 2 diabetes
That’s right you can prevent and even reverse type 2 diabetes, excessive sugar will cause havoc in your body especially your pancreas which will mess up your insulin levels. Riding your body of this white poison will help get your pancreas functioning properly again and your insulin levels back to normal.
Benefit 3 – Reduce the risk of certain cancers
Sugar has been linked to a number of cancers so you’ll be happy to hear you’ll be lowering your chances of getting cancer (especially pancreatic cancer) just by quitting sugar.
Benefit 4 – Look younger
A lifetime of over doing it with too much added sugar can make your skin dull and wrinkled. This is because of a process called glycation, where the sugar in your bloodstream attaches to proteins to form advanced glycation end products (AGEs— sounds appropriate considering what they do!) . AGEs damage collagen and elastin, the protein fibers that keep skin firm and elastic, and that damage leads to skin wrinkles and sagging. Stopping sugar will have your skin glowing and looking great. My eczema cleared up after just a few weeks!
Benefit 5 – Reduce the risk of fatty liver disease
Recent research indicates a diet high in added sugar can aggravate fatty liver disease . I bet you’ve never heard of Fatty Liver Disease, Well You’re not alone, I didn’t know much about it till recently, it’s actually one of the most common diseases in America, says Mark Hyman, M.D., founder of the Ultra Wellness Center and chairman of the Institute for Functional Medicine. Basically, that spike in insulin caused by sugar also drives fat into the liver cells, causing inflammation and scarring. This disease is no light matter, it’s a massive risk factor for diabetes, heart attacks, and even cancer.
Benefit 6 – Reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and Dementia
To much sugar in your diet reduces the production of a chemical known as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF for short), this helps the brain form new memories and remember the past . It has been shown that levels of BDNF are particularly low in people with an impaired glucose metabolism (diabetics and pre-diabetics) and low BDNF has been linked to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
So there you have it 6 of the many benefits of stopping eating sugar. If you like this post then please remember to like, comment and share 🙂
