At first I didn’t want to admit it but I was in serious need of a sugar detox. All the signs were there and it wasn’t looking good. It wasn’t till I finally admitted that these symptoms could very well be down to my over consumption of sugar that I did something about it. Today I’m now living sugar free and I don’t experience any of these problems and I feel the best I ever have. Have a look and see if any of these signs sound familiar and if they do, you could be in need of a sugar detox.
One of the first symptoms that I really noticed was my constant tiredness and energy slumps in the afternoon. I knew it wasn’t normal to feel tired as much as I did. I would have moments where I was fine but there was also plenty of times especially in the afternoon where I’d want to lie down and take a nap. My fiancé thought I was lazy which I knew I wasn’t. I would just get so tired at moments throughout the day I needed to take naps which I just didn’t know why. I now know why because once I quit sugar my tiredness and need to take naps disappeared!
You’re never quite satisfied
50% of sugar is made up from something called fructose. When you eat to much fructose it messes up your bodies hunger hormone signals and you never quite feel full up so you eat more. It’s a double blow because your liver converts the fructose into fat and yet your body still thinks it’s in starvation mode and want’s to eat more. How many times have you meant to only eat a little chocolate and ended up royally over doing it till the point you felt sick? That’s because fructose doesn’t register as food so you still feel hungry. The reason I started this sugar free lifestyle is because I kept over eating on chocolate and sweets till I felt sick. I always said I wouldn’t do it again then somehow I was back again full of remorse and now I know why.
Yep I was a tad touchy sometimes, my moods would be up and down like a yoyo. If I hadn’t had my nightly fix of the sweet stuff you’d know about it. My fiancé was just the same, she’d walk around in a huff not really knowing why. And when I went down the shop and got some of the propa naughty stuff (chocolate) her mood and mine would change and like magic we would morph into happy loving creatures. Now I’ve detoxed from sugar I never get the up and down mood swings which I’m sure my family is happy about 🙂
You crave sugar
It makes sense if you’re craving sugar then you probably need a detox. I always used to crave sugar, especially at night. A lot of the time I would say I’m not going to buy any chocolate today, then by the time it’s evening and I’m relaxing with family I’m thinking, well actually more like “obsessing” over it till I think screw it I’ll go get some. It’s like being a drug addict but for sugar rather than cocaine or heroin. Now that I’ve detoxed or “got clean” from sugar I don’t crave it anymore which is good. It’s funny because the first few attempts to stop I always felt like I was being deprived from chocolate and sweet stuff, it wasn’t until I got my mindset right that I realised I was depriving my self of a great body, great health and lots of energy if I didn’t stop eating sugar once and for all. So make sure you get the mind-set right before you quit. You’ve got all to gain and nothing to lose.
You’re over weight
This not a requirement but it’s a good sign that you might consume too much sugar. The fructose in sugar nearly all gets converted to fat by the liver. So if you consume a lot of sugar then chances are you’ll put on weight. I had a friend who was addicted to Red bull, she drank 6+ of those sugar laden energy drinks a day and she put on a lot of fat in a reasonably short amount of time. She didn’t really consume that much sugar from other sources but all the sugar in those red bulls helped packed on the pounds very quickly. It’s no coincidence that people who consume a lot of sugary products are more over weight than people who don’t.
You have poor skin
A high sugar diet can damage your collagen and make your skin appear more wrinkly and dull. I know from having eczema that when ever I’d been consuming a lot of sugar that my skin would be more dry and itchy. My skin now is better than it’s ever been. I pride my self in thinking I look pretty young still for my age. I’ve got friends who are the same age who don’t care of them selfs and look a good few years older than me. I put that down to living healthy and cutting sugar out of my diet.
You have tried to stop eating sugar, and you can’t.
This is the big one which tells if you need to get it out of your system and let your body recalibrate. Ask your self, have you ever decided to stop eating sugar but to find out soon after committing to stopping you would be back binging on it again and sometimes it would be as soon as the very same night? Well don’t worry if you did because I did it many many times and I really got to a point where I thought that I wasn’t going to be able to stop. Rest assured that you can stop because people like you including me have successfully detoxed of sugar and are reaping the rewards. You just need a game plan and the right mindset and you’ll be free from the sugar trap once and for all.
If you’ve experienced any of these signs then it’s more than likely that you should cut sugar out of your diet once and for all. Most people who experience the benefits of quitting sugar wish they did it sooner. Don’t wait for sugar to negativity effect your health anymore. Get started today and cut that white poison out of your diet once and for all.
